Ken's roots go deep in Kansas. His mother's family came from Ireland and settled on farm ground near Dover, Kansas in 1863. Ken's family still owns this land today. His father's family came from Scotland and settled in the area known as Valley Falls, Kansas in 1854.

Ken graduated from Auburn High School, attended Baker University and Washburn University. He is the Founder and Current President of Kansas Sport Hunting Association, member of Governor Brownback's Council on Travel and Tourism, and serves on the Dean's Advisory Council at Kansas State University, School of Agriculture.

Ken is married to his wife, Bev, and has two children.
